Programs Overview

The Shakespeare Society of America a 501(c)3 Educational Organization, and has operated as a California Public Benefit Corporation since 1968.

Since 1968 SSA Public Programs included sponsorship, promotions, hosting, presentations and theatrical performances for the general public, scholars, students, festivities, film & TV, lectures and panel discussions. SSA programs also served the deaf, blind, physically disabled, seniors and US Veterans.

Purpose: To advance the mission of the Shakespeare Society America by presenting school-based programs that enrich students and assist teachers with educational content.

Shakespeare is implicit throughout the California K-12 English Language Arts Content Standards, and is specifically mentioned in the Grade 7 History - Social Science Content.

Overview: This tour enlivens the Works of William Shakespeare for 9-12th grade students providing relevant knowledge and experience that supports English Language Arts and VAPA curriculum standards for teachers by providing extraordinary content resources and information.

Program Description: The tour provides a stimulating ninety-minute experience designed to integrate exposure to vast Shakespearean art, artifacts, books and theatre archives with students through readings, exploration and improvisational performance.

1.    Introduction to SSA and Summarize Collection Resources

2.    Brief summary of the Life and Works of William Shakespeare
 
The Man: William Shakespeare
The Works: Plays and Sonnets
The Results: Shakespeare Readings

3.    Presentation based on group interests/curriculum requirements

Design set, Dress in Costume, Select Props, and Act Out

4,  Act it Out participants improvisation

5.    Group Picture out front @ the New Shakespeare Sanctuary


Cost: $10 per student includes select souvenir.
No charge for teachers or chaperones.
Maximum Capacity: 50 people
